Community Outreach 1

LFBS has become a member (alongside IBESR/Social Services, Child Protection Brigade of the Police, Minustah/UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti, Ministry for Women’s Rights) of The Working Group for Child Protection.

One of the strategies they will address is prevention of sexual assault and child abuse is a training workshop in a different vulnerable community each month for 9 months.

LFBS secured funding for these trainings through one of our partners, One Hundred for Haiti.

 Oct. 2015:

We were THRILLED to collaborate once again with local Social Services (IBESR), Social Affairs (MAST), Ministry for Women’s Rights (MCFDF), Child Protection Brigade of the Police (BPM), Terre des Hommes, and other members of the Working Group for Child Proteciton in Southern Haiti / Groupe du Travail pour la Protection des Enfants du Sud (GTPE-Sud)!

Friday, LFBS and other partners of GTPE-Sud facilitated a training session to gain awareness about cases of sexual violence about children & women in the community LA SAVANNE, and educated community leaders regarding appropriate reactions to violence in their community.

Over 200 educators, pastors, community leaders and senior students heard speakers including the chief judge and asked very pointed questions. At the same time LFBS staff spoke to individual classes of students – in total over 500 were reached in this one event

While we worked with community leaders, GTPE-Sud agents raised awareness among students in each classroom of 3 local schools! Today, our agents spoke in local churches within the community to further raise awareness about violence and each person’s social responsibility to react.
