25 LFBS students are attending Our Garden Haiti training (on agricultural techniques, money management, and character building) from 9am – 4pm each day this summer. LFBS is providing a light breakfast and lunch for our kids plus 5 other community children.

Our Garden Haiti (OGH) was selected in 2014 and 2015 as a Clinton Global Initiative Commitment to Action that promotes economic empowerment with a family-based approach for youth living in poverty in the community of Pont Salomon in Les Cayes. The camp will primarily be for former street children and kids living in the rural areas of Les Cayes who are at risk of becoming child domestic workers/slaves, known as Rèstavèks.

By running a free summer camp for 25 children, OGH will provide various trainings on sustainable agriculture techniques, while collaborating with participating households in Pont Salomon to emphasize the importance of entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and self-sufficiency along with creative workshops for the children.

For most of these kids it will be the first time they will have such experience as many are former street children. Through this summer camp they will gain skills that will allow them to replicate what they’ve learned in their immediate community.

LFBS will work to follow up and provide garden materials at each child’s home following the month-long training.
